Vision and Mission

Vision:

At the time of the establishment of Bhatter College, Dantan, the founder said the primary vision of providing opportunities for higher education to the rural population situated in a marginalized location on the south-western border of West Bengal and Odisha and since then the college has been serving the needs of higher education of a vast rural population, consisting mostly of a culturally economically and socially backward section of the society. The college has always been sensitive to the continuously evolving needs of the people and it has been strategizing and manoeuvring constantly towards the attainment of new goals through the addition of diversified courses and programmes and through the maximum utilization and expression of resources. The college thus envisions participating in the overall development of the society by targeting specifically the marginalized sections like SC/ST populations, women, specially-abled and first generation learners.

Mission:

The profound mission of the college, inscribed in the college logo is to follow and uphold the universal Upanishadic ethos – Satyam Jnanam Anantam – that is the pursuit of truth, knowledge and the infinite within the compass of life finite and transient. In conformity with this, the mission of our institution is to impart humanistic education that is grounded both in the eternal Indian tradition and evolving modernity which seeks to empower the students towards discovering their talents, achieving their dreams and establishing themselves as dignified and conscious citizens.

Mechanism

The institution aims at holistic development: personality development, critical enquiry and creativity generating political and socio-cultural awareness and absorption of new technological skills. The institution orchestrates all the mechanisms towards the fulfilment of the vision and mission through various action plans like presentations of liberal education, promotion of constitutional duties and individual social responsibilities, and promotion of socio-cultural development: skill development and innovations.

  • Promotion of liberal education is encouraged through –
    • Organizing seminars, workshops, FDPs, invited lectures, movie shows, documentaries.
    • Encouraging teachers for sponsored and independent research works and publications.
    • Engaging students in field surveys for promoting experiential learning.
    • Encouraging students to participate in co-curriculum activities like cultural programmes and sports, publishing in magazines, and joining various clubs.
    • Taking up publishing projects with the ISBN from the college as publisher and publishing through the Sustainable Open Access online journals and magazines published by the college.
  • Constitutional duties and responsibilities are promoted through:
    • National Service Scheme observance of important days and birthdays of the leaders of the nation.
    • Paying homage to the statues at the college garden.
    • Organizing talks on constitutional duties and responsibilities.
    • Participating in Mock Parliament.
    • Activities by the Students’ Union.
    • Various programmes on 75 years of independence.
  • The college tries to fulfil Institutional Social Responsibilities by:
    • Adoption of villages under Unnat Bharat Abhijan.
    • Adoption of primary schools by the Teachers’ Council.
    • Adoption of students by the NSS
    • Various processions by the NSS for generating public awareness on Dengue, Safe Drive Save Life.
    • Yoga and sports initiatives from the Bhatter College Sports Academy involving the local people and school and other organizations.
    • Letting the local organizations use the indoor and outdoor stadiums.
  • Socio-economic and cultural development is attempted through
    • Helping the 100% girl students to get the Kanyashree scholarship from the Government of West Bengal and boy students to get various scholarships from the Government and Non-Government agencies.
    • Providing 100% and 50% waivers in tuition fees.
    • Providing accommodations in the boys’ and girls’ hostels.
    • Providing technical education through the Bhatter College ITI in which 100% of students get placement. (Approved by NCVT)
    • Organizing career coaching programmes for the Civil Service Examination, NET/ SET MOUs with professional coaching agencies like RICE, George Telegraph etc. (WB SSC, TET)
    • Neutralizing the negativing impact of gender discrimination by incorporating it in the main curriculum and by arranging various programmes and introducing a course on Gender Sensitization.
    • The Centre for Women’s Health for health check-ups and better hygiene.
    • General Health Check-up Centre for all.
    • Catering food at a subsidized rate for the students at the canteen.
    • Tourism development
  • The institution has always encouraged skill development of the academic skill of the teacher, non-academic skills of the non-teaching staff and technical skills of the students:
    • All the teaching and non-teaching staff of the college are computer literate.
    • The college has a computer centre for the use of the students.
    • Teachers and students are given training in publishing technology.
  • The institution resorts to innovative measures as demanded by specific situations:
    • The college has introduced Sustainable Open Access Publishing Model in order to address various emerging issues in scholarly publishing.
    • Established Local Cultural Museums both for the students’ enlightenment and for developing tourism opportunities.
    • Bhatter College Tourism and Research Centre.
    • Submitted policy documents to the District Magistrate for tourism development.
    • Bhatter College Sports Academy.
    • Unique use of the Facebook Groups for teaching during the Pandemic.
    • Local area research.
